Carter Academy Dance Program
Directed by dance teacher Ms. Bussey, the Carter Academy Dance Program offers enriching dance opportunities for elementary students through a diverse and engaging curriculum. Students explore multiple dance styles, including ballet, folklórico, jazz, hip hop, tap, modern, creative dance, and more. Open to all skill levels, the program fosters creativity, self-expression, and physical development in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Throughout the school year, students perform in a variety of campus and community events such as the Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Winter Showcase, Black History Showcase, district-wide dance performances, competitions, and the Carver High School Homecoming Parade. They also represent Carter Academy at the Black Heritage Livestock Rodeo and participate in the annual End-of-Year Dance Recital each May.
The program proudly partners with the Houston Ballet and the Institute for Contemporary Dance to expand students’ exposure to the professional dance world. Under Ms. Bussey’s guidance, the Carter Academy Dance Program continues to inspire, uplift, and empower young performers through the art of dance.
